Under the SNAP Online Purchasing Pilot launched by the USDA in 2019, 49 states including Ohio now allow food stamps SNAP beneficiaries to shop and pay for groceries online. This includes retail giants like Amazon and Walmart, plus the online grocery shopping platform Instacart. In this post, we are going to provide a list of grocery stores that accept EBT online in Ohio.

In addition, we will answer the most frequently asked questions about using Ohio SNAP EBT card online for grocery purchases.

Note that some of these stores accept EBT through Instacart.

Walmart

  • Online Purchasing using EBT is available at all Ohio locations
  • Order online or by mobile app (IOS) (Android)
  • Add your EBT card to your account
  • Select your EBT Card as payment option at checkout
  • Pay using EBT Card at pick-up

Kroger

  • Online Purchasing using EBT is available at select Ohio locations
  • Order online or by mobile app (IOS) (Android)
  • Select “SNAP EBT at pick-up” as payment option

Giant Eagle

  • Must have a curbside order that exceeds $35

FAQ on using EBT online in Ohio

Here are the most frequently asked questions about using an EBT card to shop online and about Ohio EBT Card in general:

Can I order online and pick up my items?

Yes. However, the option to pick up your online items is dependent on which retailer you purchase from.

For example, when you buy your groceries online using your EBT card through Amazon, you cannot select pick-up.

When you buy your groceries online using your EBT card through Walmart, you can schedule a grocery pick-up at no charge.

Is there a delivery fee for using Ohio SNAP Online?

It depends on the retailer.

When you spend $35 or more on groceries online from Amazon, home delivery is free.

Also, depending on the location, a delivery fee may vary from $3.99 to $7 for food purchases less than $35.

Additionally, groceries purchased online with an EBT card from Walmart Grocery are subject to a delivery fee varying from $7.95 to $9.95 depending on location.

You can save money on delivery fees with Walmart by signing up for unlimited delivery for $12.95 per month or $98 per year.

Can I Use EBT at Target online?

Yes. Starting in late 2022, Target will start accepting SNAP EBT payments online through the company’s delivery service, Shipt.

SNAP EBT cardholders will be able to use their EBT card at checkout just like they’d use a credit or debit card.

In addition, they can choose same-day Drive Up or Order Pickup options at no additional cost.

Also, same-day grocery delivery will be available at Target.com for $9.99.

Does DoorDash take EBT?

No. Food delivery apps such as DoorDash, GrubHub, Uber Eats, and PostMates do not currently accept EBT SNAP benefits.

Ohio SNAP Benefits Recipients Get a Raise for 2023

Each year, the U.S. government calculates the new maximum benefit for SNAP benefits recipients based on inflation.

The new Cost-Of-Living Adjustments (COLA) go into effect on October 1 each year and are active through the following year.

The table below provides the Maximum Ohio SNAP benefits based on household size for the 2022/2023 fiscal year.
