In today’s post we’re going to provide you with information about one of our most frequently asked questions – Does Trader Joe’s Take EBT in Ohio?
Trader Joe’s was born in 1958 as a small chain of Southern California convenience stores opened by a drugstore executive named Joe Coulombe.
In 1967 he changed the store’s name from Pronto Markets to Trader Joe’s and began to have employees wear Hawaiian shirts.
In 1988 the growing grocery chain expanded from Southern California into Northern California, and by 1995 it had 70 stores in five Western states. It reached the East Coast in 1996.
Today, the chain has more than 530 locations across the U.S., with 10,000 employees.
What Makes Trader Joe’s Unique
While a typical grocery store may carry 50,000 items, Trader Joe’s stocks about 4,000 items, 80% of which bear one of its brand names.
Trader Joe’s describes itself as “your neighborhood grocery store”.
Products include gourmet foods, organic foods, vegetarian foods, unusual frozen foods, imported foods, domestic and imported wine and beer (where local law permits), and “alternative” food items, such as vegan and vegetarian options.
About 90 percent of the items sold at Trader Joe’s are in-house labeled products, compared to 20 percent at other grocery stores.
As a result, Trader Joe’s is able to sell products at a deep discount.
